Liga MB Round 3 (Regular Season): Santa Tecla defeat Cojute

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Cojute (1-1) on the court of Santa Tecla on Friday night. Visitors were edged by Santa Tecla 78-76. It was a good game for American guard Sammy Colmenero (185-1992, college: SF State) who led his team to a victory with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Edwin Cornejo (195-1999) contributed with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Santa Tecla's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Venezuelan guard Maximillion Bell (198-1999, college: Lane) answered with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Cojute. Santa Tecla is looking forward to face Santiagueno (#7) in Usultan in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cojute will play against A.Lobos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Metapan (3-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed Independiente (1-2) 89-66. It was a great evening for Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. Noah Harris helped adding 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was American forward Noryen Lasley (201, college: Ave Maria, agency: Fully Feared Sports) with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. Metapan will play against A.Lobos (#4) in the next round. Independiente will have a break next round.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Ahuachapan (1-2) and Santiagueno (1-1), which took place in Usultan. Ahuachapan lost to Santiagueno in a road game 78-93 on Saturday. It was an exceptional evening for John Hernandez who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 30 rebounds. Kordell Brown came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for Ahuachapan in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santiagueno will meet Santa Tecla (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ahuachapan will play against San Salvador (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 3 Salvadorenos beat Brujos on the road 70-56.



Brujos - Salvadorenos 56-70

No shocking result in a game when Salvadorenos (2-1) beat Brujos (0-3) in Izalco 70-56 on Friday. Salvadorenos dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Brujos' 20. Salvadorenos forced 29 Brujos turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Salvadorenos made 12 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for Venezuelan-Colombian center Michael Hinestroza (210-1990, college: UALR) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 9 blocks. Diego Rivera (-2007) accounted for 19 points for the winning side. American swingman Anthony Gathings (196, college: LCU, agency: Fully Feared Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds and Gustavo Galdamez (190-1996) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Brujos in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
